A few months ago, while Jean and I were performing, we met folk researcher, song collector, songwriter, and guitar and banjo player Tom Naples from New York State. He’s been traveling the country, collecting songs and information about early folk music, particularly from the Depression, Dust Bowl, and early labor union movement. Tom invited us to learn some of this music and put together a set of songs to celebrate Woody Guthrie’s 100th Birthday, this July 14, 2012. It sounded fun, and we “clicked” musically, so we’ve been rehearsing and have three performances now on the July calendar, billing ourselves as the “Rising River String Band.”
The following are all performances of Woody Guthrie’s music by our new “Rising River String Band”:
Wed, July 4, 1:15 – 1:45 pm: Silver City Museum, 312 W Broadway, Silver City.
Saturday, July 14, 2 – 3 pm: Silver City Museum, 312 W Broadway, Silver City.
Hope to see you at one of these! Bring a friend!
