Amp Concerts Presents: Septeto Nacional Ignacio Pineiro
Septeto Nacional is a Grammy-nominated Cuban son group founded by master musician Ignacio Piñeiro. Were there a Pope for Cuban son, it would be Ignacio Piñeiro, an excellent sonero, singer, and composer who became a friend and inspiration to George Gershwin. His septet played on all of Havana’s radio stations in the early part of the 20th century. They crafted a refined and artistically arranged son cubano with many hits that have become part of the classic repertoire, and are credited with creating the original form of salsa.
