Abuelita’s Heart, Bilingual SDtorytelling10:00 am – 12:00 pm
“Abuelita’s Heart” by Amy Cordova – A Bilingual Storytelling Adventure with Maria Vigil
The SilverCityMuseum will host bilingual storytelling with Maria Vigil on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 10 am at the Museum. The Silver City Museum is located at 312 W. Broadway. Ms. Vigil will be reading Abuelita’s Heart by Amy Cordova.
Bring the family and enjoy a reading of the bilingual story, Abuelita’s Heart. Abuelita lives in a land the color of sunset, with a soft white dog named Cristal, a yard full of friendly animal visitors, and a heart as big and as round as the entire world. Abuelita says, “The earth is enchanted here. La tierra esta encantada aqui.” And indeed it is. Set in the American Southwest, this richly told and beautifully illustrated picture book pays tribute to family connections, family history, and community, and it shares one grandmother’s heartfelt advice to her little granddaughter. “It is by reaching out to one another that we, too, create something beautiful to last throughout the ages.”
The book will be read by retired educator Maria Vigil. Before retiring to SilverCity seventeen years ago, Maria Vigil taught bilingual education from kindergarten through university in California. She was the Educator of the Year and National Educator of the Year. Ms. Vigil is currently an international translator.
