Arte Chicano de San Vicente 2017 @ Silver City Museum
Nov 1 @ 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm

Featuring artwork by Dayna Griego, Peter Garcia, and Ruben Gonzales will be on view September 22 – December 10, 2017 at the Silver City Museum.

Artwork in a variety of media and styles highlight the range and talent of area Chicano artists. Ruben Gonzales, now deceased, worked in the mines and turned to art later in life. He became artist-in-residence at Western New Mexico University and influenced the students and faculty there. Assemblage sculptures created with found materials are among his best known works.

Artist and activist Peter Garcia is a former resident of Silver City, currently residing in Las Cruces. He is known for papel picado and works on paper more generally. He also creates digital art from scans of work he starts on paper.

Dayna Griego grew up in Albuquerque, traveled the world, and now lives in the Arenas Valley. Expressionistic, from the heart, Griego currently creates art in glass, ceramic, paint, and print.

All three create artwork in mixed and varying media.

Please also plan to join us for a special reception for the artists on November 1, 2017, 3:30-5:30pm.

The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching, and interpreting the region’s unique history. For more information, please contact the museum at (575) 538-5921,info@silvercitymuseum.org, or go to the museum’s website. www.silvercitymuseum.org.

Robert Kuhn @ Buckhorn Saloon
Nov 3 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Robert Kuhn @ Buckhorn Saloon | Pinos Altos | New Mexico | United States

Multicultural poet and musician Robert Kuhn was born in Houston, Texas and moved back in 2010 after bouncing around the world for twelve years. Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Nicaragua all played home for him as different doors, jobs, occupations and art forms opened and led him on from an Academic All-American Line Backer to a vagabond fisherman farmer writing the critically acclaimed songs he has carried throughout the Americas. Broken hearts, broken backs, failed marriages, violence, riches, drugs, labor, poverty, music, poetry, dirt and salt; so it goes and continues.

Back in Houston, Robert joined forces with like-minded musicians (including extraterrestrial ancient bluesman Little Joe Washington) and recorded the album “Everybody Knows”. It was Little Joe’s last studio work and recognized by the press as one of Houston’s Top Releases of 2014. The latest album, “Maria the Gun” is scheduled for release in August of 2017.

Robert currently lives in Galveston, Houston and on the road through the Americas where he is still sharing the unique and philosophical independent folk, blues and multilingual psyche-rock and roll Americana music that he writes and finds. It is honest at the least and esoteric at its best.

“Beneath the Bleeding Tree”
For years Seraphina has told the story of the mysterious stranger who woke her with true love’s kiss; little does she know that her younger sister, Persephone, was the one who saved her, after selling her soul to the Fae King. Persephone has become accustomed to taking orders from the Fae King, but everything changes when he commands her to serve his grandson, Killian.

Never before has she met someone who could fascinate and infuriate her at the same time. Torn between seeing Killian as a potential ally and a man complicit in her subjugation, Persephone must use her wits and courage to try and protect the ones she loves, all while navigating a world too eager to harm them.
