A wonderful atmosphere is created when more than 50 writers, agents and publishers gather to participate in over 35 events.

The Southwest Festival of the Written Word is held bi-annually on the last weekend in September. (During odd numbered years). Multiple venues throughout Historic Downtown Silver City including the Seedboat Gallery, the Silver City Museum, the Silver City Public Library, and areas along Bullard, Yankie, and Broadway streets host the many events, lectures, gala and exhibitions.

Some 50 presenters—fiction and nonfiction writers, poets, bloggers, journalists, lyricists, editors, dramatists, and publishers from throughout the Southwest—are featured in more than 30 sessions and workshops. A full slate of children’s activities, book signings, student workshops and writing competitions, dramatic presentations, musical performances, and book art exhibitions round out the weekend offerings.

The Festival was created to highlight writers who live and write in the Southwest.   More than half the Festival presenters live in the wider Silver City area, while the rest are from Texas, Arizona, Colorado and other parts of New Mexico.
