Dear Tourists: The monsoon is here! And it’s a great time to visit southwestern New Mexico.

Monsoon rain clouds grace summer afternoons in southwestern New Mexico. This is a recent view looking northward across Silver City toward nearby mountains and the Gila National Forest. The “W” on the hillside at the far right stands for Western New Mexico University.

Silver City is truly “One of the Best Small Towns in America,” with scenery and activities to suit a wide range of tastes. Throughout July and August, the days are sunny and the nights are cool. Late afternoon thunderstorms put on spectacular displays, and if you listen closely you may hear the buzz of hummingbirds near flowers in town as well as in the mountains and high desert.

While you are here, stop by the Murray Ryan Silver City Visitor Center, at 201 N. Hudson Street, to get up-to-date information on sights to see and things to do.
